The River Verdugo
The source of the River Verdugo begins at a height 760 metres above sea level in the village of Cernadelos (Santa Mariña de Presqueiras, Forcarei). In its first low section it flows through the municipalities of Beariz, A Lama and Ponte Caldelas, becoming a broader fluvial valley when reaching Soutomaior. In its last stretch it is the natural limit between the municipalities of Soutomaior and Pontevedra, leading in to the Vigo estuary between the parishes of Arcade and Ponte Sampaio. The River Verdugo is famous for trout fishing. On the last Sunday of May in Ponte Caldelas, they celebrate the Festa da Troita (Festival of Trout) and the international salmon fishing competition..
